Practical 9..Final blog entry!
HELLO EVERYONE!
This is the 6th week and it is the last practical!AHHH!All portfolio's have to be submitted on the last day of the week.It a very fast week and i did not expect for UIR to end next week!:(Very sad for me as this will be my last entry for UIR!
BACK TO LESSON!
Before elaborting on what i have learnt,I would like to thank Ms Farida for the wonderful journey in UIR!If you would ask me what i have learnt throughout my whole journey in UIR,i must that I've learnt a lot despite of learning to surf the Internet.My first impression of the subject is that this subject is something that everyone knows about but for your information UIR opens up my mind on what the Internet contains all this while.
Internet has lots of different categories such as discussion forum,electronic journals and magazine ,WWW site and personal blogs.Not only that it has different types of website such as personal and organisational websites.
I didn't know that there are different purposes of a website such as:
- Information
- Advocacy
- Business/marketing
- News
- Personal
- Entertainment
All of them serve different purposes for example,information website provide factual information.
Another activity I've learnt is replacing one word to another word to get the specific word i want to search for.As for my topic,i did on 'Discuss the impact of drug abuse on youth'.
For example,the keyword is impact and the keyword variations that I managed to find would be effect,aftermath,consequences,result,outcome.Next,i learnt how to search phrases using Boolean operators such as "And" and "Or".I did three but one example is (impact OR aftermath*)AND (youth* OR juvenile*)AND (drugs*).This did narrow down my search.After knowing about using boolean operators,i practice using it when i did on any research.
I also did learnt that there are not only Google that i can depend on now but also
-search engine
-meta search engine
-subject directory
I've learnt the differences and similarities among the three of them.
Next,I've learnt to evaluate a certain website by evaluating them using the template.Evaluate a certain website by their:
- Purpose
- Coverage
- Authority
- Accuracy
- Currency
- Accessibility
- Presentation and Arrangement
- Usability
- Overall
The activity that i never tried before is WIKI but i had the opportunity to make a post on Wiki:).Wiki is very useful as i learnt a lot from other classmates views on their topic.As for this blog,I've learnt how to use create site feed and the purpose of it.
LASTLY,I've learnt to appreciate BLOGGING!OH my how time flies when i am having fun.I want to make another personal blog of my own.I am glad that i took UIR as i am given the opportunity to create a blog.SEE YOU GUYS SOON!:D

Practical 8 on talkingcock.com
Practical 8 is evaluating on http://www.talkingcock.com. I was shocked when I visited the websites as it contains a lot of singlish words and fictitious news and even singlish dictionary. There are pros and cons of this websites.
This website states the purpose that is it is a forum for friends to share jokes with each other.Obviously,the content in this website is not real facts that readers should believe in.This website covers more on crappy news,columns,features,forum and dictionary.
This means that it contains inaccurate facts and mostly on political issues.Opinions and fake news are mostly what this website contains.By using singlish in their content,there are a lot of grammatical and spelling errors.
What i like about this website is the front page as the presentation is attractive and the way the words are arranged is quite organised.In addition,it is easy to navigate around as there are a few navigation bars at the top to access to any webpages.Overall,this website is unique but not advisable to surf everytime as it rottens your English language.
Before that,i have a few questions to answer.
How would I react to this website if I were a Singapore’s Prime Minister?
Honestly, I will banned the website as it brings down the reputation of Singapore.They even changed the logo to…
How will the Singapore government react if they see this?
If they persist on not banning the website, ,I will ensure that the website can only be visited by anyone above 18 as the words used are all singlish and this will make children who are below 18 not to speak fluently in English. They used the words "powderful","par-leeya-ment" and shocking of all,Lousy Transport Authority ("LTA").Isn't it suppose to be "Land Transport Authority"?
How would I react to this website if I am a Singaporean?
Honestly, I am a Singaporean but it is acceptable in doing this type of website as I really think that it is mainly for entertainment. It is acceptable to make this type of website as the government is too harsh sometimes in governing our country. By making this websites, it opens up Singaporean minds by making them realised that Singapore government are not right everytime.For example, Mas Selamat’s case. They denied that they are not the one at fault in the escape of Mas Selamat but after four months, they apologized for what happened as they admitted that it is their fault.They admitted that their security was not tight enough.

Seriously, I do not mind them making this websites as it is clearly for entertainment sake eventhough Singapore’s government reputation is at stake.I did laugh my heart out after watching some videos.:)
How would I react to this website if I am a Foreigner?
If I were a foreigner, I have doubts in Singapore’s government. I will believe the news in this website instead of believing "The Newpaper" or "The Straits Time" on news on the government. After surfing this website, I will get attracted to it and eventually, my English language will not be as fluent as I will visit the ‘The Coxford Singlish Dictionary’.For your information,it is the best selling Singlish Dictionary in Singapore!

E-learning week for Practical 7
My My..It has been ages since i last updated this blog of mine.This is because this week(Practical 7) for UIR is e-learning week and we had to do a wiki post in UIR-rawkz.Hang on!Before elaborating on this week activity,i have to tell you guys that i did badly for my UIR test.Ouhh well..last minute of going through the pages of UIR notes and glancing through the words.heh!There were no classes on Friday but unfortunately we had to do our wiki's though.
Back to lesson!I did my wiki entry on "Discuss the impact of drugs on Youth".Firstly,i did my research and findings on impact on drugs on youth and found a few websites but only took two resources.We have to state the resources used after elaborating on the resources of websites we have found and lastly,the summary of resouces.I found out a lot actually about the impact or aftermath youth will experience after taking drugs.
There are short-term effect and long-term effects.
The short-term effects are:
- feeling "rush"
- Depressed respiration
- Clouded mental functioning
- Nausea and vomiting
- Suppression of pain
- Spontaneous abortion
The long-term effects are:
- Addiction
- diseases (e.g., HIV/AIDS & Hepatitis B and C)
- Infectious
- Collapsed veins
- Bacterial infections
- Abscesses
- Infection of heart lining and valves
- Arthritis and other rheumatologic problem
Other than finding out that all these effects,i've found out that a person who has taken drugs, in addition to the physical factors involved, retains mental image pictures of those drugs and their effects. Mental image pictures are three-dimensional color pictures with sound and smell and all other perceptions, plus the conclusions or speculations of the individual. .
It is very useful in knowing all the problems that a drug addict face.If you encounter any of your friends having these symptoms,please offer them your help.:)
BACK TO WIKI!
After doing an entry on wiki,i have learnt that in wiki,we are allowed to edit other people's post by pressing a button 'easy edit'.This is an easy way to edit but it has a disadvantage as others can edit or even delete your hardwork by not allowing us to know who deleted it.
Wiki has a more advantages than disadvantages as I strongly think that it is a good way to post our discussion on wiki as others are able to learn and know more facts on what they do not know by reading our post.Not only it is easy for us,it is easy for Ms Farida to check who have done their entries by checking one webpage.Others can also edit our grammatical and spelling grammer so our enrty will look presentable.
Overall,wiki allow us students to post our opinions under one webpage.It is a great way to learn by reading others discussion.

Practical 6
For Practical 6,i have learnt about the 3 search facilities.As all of you know,Google is the best search engine but after knowing about metacrawler i learnt that a meta search engine is different from a search engine in different ways.
Metacrawler display lesser number of webpages than search engine.This will not allow me to get to know more about other webpages relating to my words.It has limitations and it may not include the best search engines.It is unstable,inconsistent,limited to keyword search and has different features than a search engine.
A search engine is better as it display a lot of varieties of words relating to the words search.For subject directory,i've learnt that the results display is different from search engines.
In addition,we have to do an individual activity by evaluating on internet resources.We have to evaluate the internet resource on:
-PURPOSE
-COVERAGE
-AUTHORITY
-ACCURACY
-CURRENCY
-ACCESSIBILITY
-PRESENTATION AND ARRANGEMENT
-USABILITY
-OVERALL
I've learnt that by using this template,we will know whether the website is trustworthy or useful.I will have to evaluate on one Internet resource on my topic.
Will find more research on the difference of the 3 search facilities and start doing on evaluation!:)

Zalikha's DREAM holiday..it's just a dream..
Aloha everyone!
Have u you every dream of going to your dream holiday destination? I bet you have! When I was young, my family and I used to travel to different places such as Japan, Bali, Bangkok, Australia Sydney and Malaysia (tell me about it…Malaysia? never heard of anyone wanting that country to be their dream holiday.hehJ).Sadly, I have long forgotten about how the countries looked like but pictures that I still keep speaks a thousand words.
You may wonder where is my dream holiday at.

Yes indeed!
If you guess it correctly, HAWAII is my dream holiday. Compared to Singapore, our country does not have all the activities launched by Hawaii itself. In Hawaii, there are activities such as..
Whale watching and dining in the cruise at the same time.
Let me wonder off to ‘LA LA LAND’.Hmmm…maybe after whale watching, maybe swim with the whales(if it is possible) and have an international buffet in the cruise…FANTASTIC life I would say)
Activities under the sea such as Waikiki Atlantis Submarine Adventure.
I never tried this before. (I wonder how the people survive under the sea and how oxygen is produced in the submarine itself)
Swimming with the dolphins.
I tried snorkeling before but swimming WITH the dolphins would be a gratifying experience. (Err. maybe I will not touch the dolphins. don’t ask me why.FULLSTOP)
Horseback riding. Scary if the horse is too wild to be handled but why not grab the opportunity?:)
Playing golf at Hawaii’s biggest island.
I may not be able to play well in golf and aim at every hole I see but playing golf at the biggest island in HAWAII is a once in a lifetime experience.
Not forgetting, trying out the Hawaii dance
and wearing the attractive clothes. It would be a great opportunity for me to learn how they really use their hips and shake their butt (OUh la la...*).
After taking part in all the activities, we can relax our mind by visiting the North Shore Sailing, Kauai, Hawaii. This is the place to relax and see the sunset.
And Kiahuna Beach. Beautiful beach (better than Sentosa indeed!)
Next stop would be Hawaii’s museum, I am curious and want to know more about Hawaii’s history. It is called...The Hawaii State Art Museum.

Activities on Practical 4 and 5

Best search facility
I would say www.google.com as it has more varieties relating to the words I want to search.Not only that,it has advanced search and preferences.Other than that,if we want to search websites from Singapore only,we can press the ‘pages from Singapore’ to search for our websites or if we do not want,there is a button’web’.This buttons allows us to get websites from all over the country.
That is it for practical 4 and 5.

UIR Practical 3
Practical 3 is on e-learning.Sometimes i prefer e-learning and sometimes..NOT!We have to discipline ourselves when it comes to e-learning.
Practical three makes me found out more what are the types of information are there in the internet.Behind every resource,there is a purpose.There are 6 purposes and they are..Information,Advocacy,Business/marketing,News,Personal and Entertainment.Most of the resources i found was information.The topic that i will be working on is the "impact of drugs on youth" and there are more than what you think that can be found on the internet.There are as many information type of resources in the internet than advocacy,business,marketing,news..etc.
I've learnt that information resources provide factual information and the examples are from and about the government.For advocacy,it is created to influence public opinion and attempt to increase membership in the organization.As for business and marketing,it is constructed to promote a product or a service.Next will be news.News are everywhere be it in newspaper or on the internet.News resources provide information on current events.These includes CNN,BBC.etc.As for personal,it is designed by individuals for different reasons.
Not only did i learn on the purpose of resources.I learnt what is site feed all about.It is a data format used for providing users with frequently updated content.It is used so that we can get updated to a certain website everytime.It is easy to use.
We also need to do an activity that is "If i have $500..".I think this activity is great and fun as it makes me prepare on what to buy when i have my next salary..AHEM!:)
This is random but since this is my third practical,I've changed my thinking towards blogging.
Blogging is useful and FUN as it is the easiest way to update people about yourself and blogging makes UIR fun!:)

If i have $500...I will...
Ouh oUH!The wedges!This is from Victoria Secret and they have wedges with a wide range of colours.It is not that costly actually and I will have to go for "e"(in the picture).Fabulous!Not only that,it looks comfortable.$55 is a good buy.
Why not go for a makeover?I love the big loose curls!Haha..you might wonder who is that in the picture actually(replace her face with mine).Sorry!$180 to $200 is a good price.
Next will be 'Forever 21' floral shorts.I have one at home actually.One thing i love about shopping at Forever 21 is that,even though it is expensive,they have unique designs.That type of short cost me around $48 to $56.
The red hood..!my oh my..lovely!It looks comfortable and i love RED.red is SEXY.$89 is a good catch from Forever 21 .Let us accumulate...total would be $394.80.I am left with $105.20.
LASTLY!i have made up my mind.I would like to SAVE $105.20 for my future use.Who knows...i might need the dough one day..:)

Who am i?
Now let's switch the topic to me,myself and I.I have three siblings and i am the second child of the family.I was from Bedok North Secondary School(*recalling back the fun and sweet memories**)and yes,i cannot deny that i miss secondary school..but hey think of the bright side.After graduating...i seriously do not know where should i head to.Private Uni?Work?Torturing myself by going to the army?(hell no!)
You may ask and wonder why i choose this course in the first place?I really thought that i will be learning about the hardware of computer but my oh my..programme programme PROGRAMMING!As the years goes by,i understood really well what programming is all about and credit goes to my classmates(C134):).I miss my classmates as they are approachable people and supporting too.What can i expect?We get separated as the years go by.

ohh..first ever blog!
You may think that yes,i am a knoob in blogging.I have to admit it.The reason for me not to have any blog is due to time constraint.Having a blog means you have to maintain and update it everyday right?If i am not right,correct me.:)
Back to lesson.Firstly,i am glad to have a teacher like Ms Farida as she is an approachable teacher.For my classmates,for now,i do not know them as we did not even interact during class period except for my friends,Sherry,Priscilla and Aung.Hope to know my URL classmates better in future.heh.
For the first practical,we did not learn much as Ms Farida just intoduce to us what URL is all about.That week is the add/drop subject and we have around twenty people in our class but the second week came and bomb!The class went up to twenty-seven.We were dismissed early around two o'clock.
For the second practical,as you can see,creating our first blog!We have to differentiate what is the difference between personal and organisational website.I managed to find three organisational website as it is quite tough in searching for personal website.I did on the topic,'Discuss the impact of drugs abuse on youths'.I am interested in doing this topic as i am curious on what are the impacts will be on youths.In knowing the impact,I will be careful and not to allow peer pressure to influence me.
After doing that,we have to compile a bibliography of the websites we have found.Overall,i found the two practical useful as it allows me to know more about what search engine allow us to do and using advance search helps me to get the specified words in a short time.
Oh my,it is 11am already and my class has ended.Will update soon.:)
